Who are we?

BWI of the Triangle is chapter of Babywearing International. Our local group is run completely by volunteers. We serve a large geographic area and a lot of members, and are always in need of more help! (Here’s why.)

The volunteers get to know each other better and become friends and supporters over time. We have several different ways that you can get more involved. For each of them, we’d really like for you to first be an active, dues-paying member of Babywearing International of the Triangle and be able to commit to attending one event per month. Got that covered?? Great!

Below is a list of our basic volunteer positions. If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity, please complete our volunteer interest form!

Chapter Ambassadors

This is where all of our volunteers start out. Chapter Ambassadors are the lovely members who join us at events to help set up, assist with sign-in, welcome new attendees, process carrier returns and check outs, and help with other non-teaching tasks. If you have additional skills outside of event help, please let us know and we will try to put them to good use!

All Chapter Ambassadors:

  • Become a member of our BWI Triangle Volunteer Planning group
  • Agree to the BWI code of ethics and the BWI Triangle Code of Conduct
  • Pay dues of $30 annually to BWI of the Triangle.
  • May choose to become a CSV after 3 months.

Chapter Support Volunteers & Volunteer Babywearing Educators

Chapter Support Volunteers (CSVs) may do any job of a Chapter Ambassador, but also choose to become voting members of BWI and may serve in a leadership role or help in other capacities. Chapter Support Vounteers may choose to train to become a VBE. You can learn more about becoming a CSV here: Thinking of Becoming a CSV?

A Volunteer Babywearing Educator (VBE) teaches, leads Babywearing Learn & Play meetups, and helps wearers troubleshoot babywearing issues online and in person. They have passed both a written and practical exam administered by a Babywearing International Master Babywearing Educator (MBE) and are accredited by Babywearing International.

You don’t do it on your own, though!  We have a training team and plenty of people to help answer questions, as well as having “VBE-ITs” (VBE’s In Training) to shadow VBEs at events.  Determining when you’re ready to become a VBE is dependent on experience, training, and a letter of recommendation from an officer. You can learn more about becoming a VBE here: Thinking of Becoming a VBE?

All Chapter Support Volunteers and Volunteer Babywearing Educators:

  • Become a member of our BWI Triangle Volunteer Planning group and BWI Chapter Volunteer groups on Facebook,  as well as the BWI Chapter Volunteer Forum on TheBabywearer.com.
  • Agree to the BWI code of ethics and the BWI Triangle Code of Conduct
  • Are covered by BWI insurance when serving as a volunteer.
  • Pay dues of $10 annually directly to BWI. If you are already a sustaining member of our chapter, your membership dues roll over into your volunteer dues.

Great!  When do I start!?

First- help us “meet” you — We want to put a face to your name, so after completing the volunteer interest form, come to an event, introduce yourself as a volunteer, and meet some of our current volunteers.  It will also give us a chance to answer any questions you may have. You can also send email to volunteers@bwitriangle.org at any time with your questions about volunteering.

We’re excited to welcome you to the lovely group of people we call volunteers!
